How to know you have a pet emergency | Pets - Home

Owning a pet can bring you great joy and great stress, especially during an emergency.

Here are some signs, situations and symptoms to watch out for.

Breathing: If your pet develops difficulty breathing, open their mouth and check for a foreign object.? If you see something, and can reach it, remove it and seek veterinary care immediately.

Hit by a car: Seek immediate veterinary care.

Bite wounds: Check wound for debris, flush with clean water.? If deep, open or infected call veterinarian.

Burns: Flush with cool water, apply ice pack for 15-20 minutes.? If caused by dry chemicals, DO NOT wash with water, call veterinarian.

Seizures: Keep pet away from objects, do not try to restrain.? Call Veterinarian. If multiple seizures occur seek immediate veterinary care.

Signs of poisoning:

- mouth irritation, skin rash, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, drooling, staggering, hallucinations, over-reaction to sound & light, difficulty breathing, seizure, tremors, rigidity, heart failure, kidney or liver problems, and coma.

Common sources of poisoning:

- prescription medications, Lily's, raising, grapes, chocolate, products with Xylitol such as gum, coco mulch, tobacco, coffee, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, playdough, fire works, paint balls, wild mushrooms, bread dough, and onions.
