Broncos promote young QBs coach Gase to OC

The Broncos aren't messing with an offense that ranked second with 30.1 points per game this season.

They promoted quarterbacks coach Adam Gase to offensive coordinator to replace Mike McCoy, who left to become Chargers head coach. Coach John Fox said continuity was an important factor in the hire.

Gase, 34, who learned under Josh McDaniels and worked closely with quarterback Peyton Manning this season, will be one of the league's youngest offensive coordinators. Gase was QBs coach for two years after two seasons as Denver's WRs coach. He has eight years of NFL coaching experience. Gase began his coaching career in 2000 at LSU and joined the Lions' scouting department in 2003.

Fox also reached out to former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt about the offensive coordinator position, according to the Denver Post.
